Adventure Sports · Sagada, Mountain Province
The Hanging Coffins of Sagada are one of the most distinctive sights in the Cordillera highlands — wooden coffins suspended on cliff faces in Echo Valley, a Igorot tradition that placed the dead closer to the ancestors and the sky. Reaching them is a short, picturesque trek from town through the local cemetery and into the limestone gorge, usually with a local guide who explains the custom and the area's significance. Best paired with the Sumaguing Cave 'spelunking' adventure also in Sagada. Ideal for travelers comfortable visiting an active burial site with respect and for those who want one of Luzon's most unforgettable cultural experiences.
